6-Week Small Group Program

Skills for Kids. Support for Parents. Confidence for Both.

What to Expect

Skills Studio: Kids

Each week, your child meets in a small, age-based group (K–2nd or 3rd–5th grade) for 45–60 minutes of skills training. Groups are capped at 8 children, which is small enough for personalized attention but large enough for kids to feel supported by peers. This size allows facilitators to give targeted feedback and coaching while kids also benefit from the motivation and normalization of learning alongside others who share similar challenges. In this safe, structured setting, children practice real-life skills, build confidence, and discover that they’re not alone. Sessions also include game-based learning activities, so kids build focus, flexibility, and social skills in a way that feels engaging and fun. Sessions are facilitated by licensed professionals.

Skills Studio: Parents

While your child is in group, you’ll join other parents in a concurrent coaching session facilitated by a licensed therapist. These groups also stay small, giving you space to ask questions and share experiences while still benefiting from the support of peers. Each week combines psychoeducation with hands-on strategies you can put into practice immediately. Parents often wonder what we mean by “practical tools.” In practice, it looks like concrete resources such as structured homework routines, calm-down scripts, and step-by-step strategies for breaking tasks into manageable parts. You’ll leave with simple, evidence-based tools designed to reduce stress and increase consistency at home—along with the encouragement of knowing other parents are working on the same goals.

Why it Works

Our ADHD Skills Studio is designed as a dual-track program - children and parents learning in parallel - and is grounded in evidence-based practices, including behavioral parent training, executive function skill-building, and social learning strategies. Research shows that when parents are actively involved, children with ADHD improve more quickly and maintain progress longer (Mautone et al., 2011; Chronis-Tuscano et al., 2016).

  • Consistency & Repetition: ADHD brains thrive on repetition. Skills stick when practiced across settings—group, home, and school. Multiple program cycles deepen learning, layer in new challenges, and build lasting habits.

  • Skill Generalization: Kids don’t just learn skills in a skills training; they apply them at home and in daily routines because parents know how to reinforce them.

  • Shared Language & Relationship Reinforcement: When parents use the same strategies, kids encounter less resistance, more trust, and greater success.

  • Safe, Supportive Practice: Groups of no more than 8 children allow kids to try, make mistakes, and try again in a judgment-free space. This builds resilience and confidence.

  • Accountability & Encouragement: Both kids and parents find motivation in seeing others work on similar challenges, reducing shame and boosting persistence.

The result: less stress, more connection, and skills that last well beyond the program. Families who commit to ongoing practice—through a half-year or full-year plan—see the most meaningful changes in focus, regulation, and overall family harmony.

  • The ADHD Skills Studio is a skills-training program, not therapy. It’s designed to give kids and parents practical tools for everyday life. If additional therapeutic support is needed, we also offer therapy services outside of this group.

  • Every child and family is different, but research is clear: consistent skill practice in multiple settings leads to stronger, longer-lasting change.  That’s why our program includes both the child group and the parent education piece, and why we encourage families to participate in multiple rounds.

    • Greater consistency = greater progress. ADHD brains benefit from repetition. The more often skills are practiced, not just in the group, but at home between sessions, the more likely they are to “stick.”

    • Parent partnership accelerates results. Studies show parent involvement significantly improves outcomes in ADHD interventions (Mautone et al., 2011; Chronis-Tuscano et al., 2016). When parents use the same strategies and language, kids generalize skills more quickly and resist less at home.

    • Repetition builds mastery. Six weeks introduces skills; multiple cycles build habits. Each round deepens learning, layers in new challenges, and strengthens routines.

That’s why we offer discounted packages for multiple rounds. Families who commit to ongoing practice, through the half-year or full-year plan see the most change in focus, regulation, and family harmony.

  • Yes. Many families use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover program costs.

We can also provide a superbill upon request if you’d like to submit it to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. While insurance coverage is not guaranteed, HSA and FSA funds are often an accessible option.

  • Parent involvement is a core part of this program. Each round includes parent education and support, because lasting progress happens when children and parents grow together. We encourage parents to stay and participate whenever possible—it strengthens skills at home and models commitment for your child.

At the same time, we understand life is busy. If you can’t stay for every session, your family will still receive parent education materials, coaching guidance, and structured support through our Systemic Solutions approach. The key is ongoing connection, whether in the room or through follow-up resources.

  • Small groups provide the best of both worlds—personalized support and the benefits of peer learning.

    • Targeted attention without the spotlight. A low facilitator-to-student ratio allows individualized feedback and scaffolding, while kids learn alongside peers—often less pressure than 1:1.

    • Motivation & normalization. Seeing other kids working on the same challenges reduces shame and increases buy-in: “It’s not just me.” Gentle peer accountability boosts follow-through.

    • Predictable, right-sized stimulation. Groups are small enough to avoid the overwhelm of a classroom, but dynamic enough to keep kids engaged and practicing skills in real time.

  • Yes. The Skills Studio runs continuously. New participants may join at any time, as long as space is available.

  • Life happens. If your child misses a week, you’ll receive handouts and guidance to help keep the learning going at home.

  • Our multi-session plans are designed to be used consecutively, because consistency and momentum make the biggest difference in ADHD skill-building.

At the same time, we know families have busy seasons. If you need a short break between sessions, we’ll work with you to make sure your child and family stay on track.

  • All meetings are held at Wellness & Movement by Yam, a welcoming community space located at 1171 Spartanburg Highway, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792. The studio offers a calm, supportive environment that’s easy to access and designed for both movement and learning.
